Wedded Bliss

We are surrounded with imagery of perfect Instagram weddings - where everything is planned down to the minutiae. From gowns to flowers, candles to cakes.

But what about those weddings that took place in a time before the smartphone? Things were a little less documented, fewer cameras around, but the events were quite something to behold.

As a preferred site for weddings and special occasions, we love it when people reach out to let us know of their events held in the church. We especially want to see the pictures! There’s a compelling nature about them.

So we were excited to hear from Alan and Robyn who were married in the Carngham Church in 1983 by Rev Allengame, and that they were more than happy to share images from their special day.

Alan told us that there was nothing at all he would change about the day in the slightest. Surprisingly the day was hot and sunny, something he said was “not bad for the Valley!”

“It was great to be surrounded by all of our friends and family on the most wonderful day of our lives,” said Alan.

Robyn’s dress was designed by both Robyn and her mother, prompting Alan to say that one highlight that he would never forget was “seeing my beautiful bride in her gown”.

The bridal party posed on the steps of the Carngham Uniting Church, resplendent in the fashion of the 1980s. We particularly love the lavender Laura Ashley vibe!

Alan fondly recalls the setting of the church and today is part of our wider community of supporters. We are so grateful to be able to maintain connections to all of the families and individuals who share the same experience we do - having an important part of our identity attached to the impressive bluestone church on the Linton-Carngham Road.

Do you have a story to tell about your connection to the church? Drop us a note and let us know more! We love to hear your stories and see your pictures.

Or maybe you’re thinking of having your own event at the Carngham Uniting Church. We’re ready to talk!
